Hey there - thanks for your comment!

I may not have made it clear, but when I said the Shirlington "strip" I was just referring to the strip of stores and restaurants. Not that Shirlington is only a strip for the neighborhood.

And then same with the South Arlington thing - I'd say Crystal City wasn't a great place to live and then once Amazon announced it as their HQ2, suddenly people went clamoring there like crazy! I love South Arlington, I think it's been underrated for a long long time. But that's changing for sure now.

I’d say tagging Shirlington area as a strip is a bit off the mark. It’s much much more than that, and it has a really great destination/night out and neighborhood feel. And to say that south Arlington wasn’t a nice place to live until Jeff Bezos chose it is wrong too. There are a ton of nice areas in this part of town, and you just have to be not so north Arlington-centric to realize it. Great parks, plenty of outdoors spots, lots of nice neighborhoods, metro access, great diversity, great restaurants, and more. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else in the DC area.

This is amazing, and I didn't know that Columbia Pike had this nickname!! Thank you for sharing this info. I believe it about 150 nationalities, it's so diverse and the restaurants are so varied and awesome.

One more big distinction... Columbia Pike in South Arlington is nicknamed "the world in a zip code" for the 150ish nationalities here, speaking about 100 different languages. There are dozens of great restaurants run by first generation Americans.

I feel like that same thing could be said about so many places though, right? My hometown in Connecticut is a shell of what it used to be. Hopefully places change for the better but sometimes it alienates the old guard who lived there.
