We worked with Melissa Terzis to purchase our first home. Melissa was fantastic, knowledgable, and has our highest recommendation. When we first met with Melissa, we were at the very beginning of our home-buying journey. She helped us understand the whole process, the ins and outs of of the DC area market, and most importantly, our budget. We realized we had more saving to do. Fast forward two years to when we were really ready to buy, and she was there to help us move forward.

At every point, Melissa was committed to helping us make the right choice for our family, at the right time for us. Her willingness to think this through with us, without any pressure, made her an obvious choice to work with when we were ready to dive back in. Our situation was unique, and Melissa was willing to go above and beyond to accommodate us. We bought our U.S. home while stationed in east Africa for development work. Buying from another continent is inherently stressful, but Melissa was always available for emails and calls across timezones, which really set us at ease.

Melissa helped us identify the right neighborhoods for our family’s needs and our budget. Things can move fast in this market. When we found a potential winner, Melissa was able to very quickly put together a video showing for us, and get our offer together in time. We came up with an offer strategy, and our bid was selected. We loved the house, but it required a lot of work. Melissa was amazing, using her relationships with vendors to mobilize a team of contractors to price out all the needed repairs, and help us include them in our budgeted cost of ownership. Once we eventually contracted the work, her recommended vendors did a great job at a fair price.

Melissa is an honest and direct negotiator, and helped us figure out the right deal with the seller, taking into account the repairs needed. In the end, we came to a deal that worked for all of us, and got everything fixed up at the new house. Melissa is wonderful to work with, and we can’t recommend her enough. It takes a lot of trust to make such a big decision from overseas, and we couldn’t have picked a better partner to make it happen.

Melissa is EXCELLENT!! Recently I was in charge of selling a home as a part of an estate. I originally contacted another realtor to do the work since he said he specialized in this sort of thing. Unfortunately, though we had a signed agreement he tried to change the terms and was slow to implement any marketing plan. I contacted Melissa and she was on it! Within an hour I had everything I needed to get the house listed and setup a time to see everything. This was an AS IS sale and to me the house did not look all that great. After I had the house cleaned out she had the photographer come in and they took some amazing pictures! I saw the brochure that was produced and almost did not recognize the house. They caught the charm and quaintness of the home and let it shine. Within 3 days of listing, she presented a signed offer for the full asking price and in less than 30 days we went to settlement. We had some issues with a past due utility bill during the process ando Melissa was on the phone with me negotiating away all of the fees which reduced the amount due. She didn’t have to do anything, but she truly cares and will do whatever she can to make the process as simple and easy for you as possible. Hands down, I highly recommend her services. I will never call another realtor and recommend her to all my friends and family!

When I was selling my marital home, Melissa represented the buyer, after seeing how she advocated for them, I realized I wanted that for myself when I was ready to buy again; she did not disappoint. I think what I valued most during our search is her advice that kept us from going after properties that wouldn’t be worth bidding above asking. It’s so easy to get swept up in this market and get impatient and just want to get a house! I was so thankful that she helped us wait for the right property ☺️ We also just used her to sell our condo. Melissa and her team were able to formulate a plan to get it fixed and sold within a relatively short time frame. Even though our first offer fell through, we ultimately ended up with an all cash no contingency offer at asking price. Really what more could you ask for! Melissa was the perfect realtor, both when we sold our house and when we purchased a new one. She was instantly responsive whenever we needed her, whether it was to answer a question, take a look at a property, get approved for a loan, or set up a lightning-fast inspection. She gave us excellent strategic advice about how to structure an offer as well as how to best price our own home. She connected us with all the resources we needed to make it easy to get our house ready for sale. We felt totally supported at every stage of the process, and now, looking back, we’re incredibly pleased at the outcome of following her advice to a T. We love Melissa! We worked with her about 5 years ago to purchase a condo and contacted her again when we were ready to purchase our first single-family home. As other reviewers have mentioned, she’s a great negotiator, has an excellent network of reliable contacts in the home-buying space, and is available and straightforward. What we appreciate about her the most is that Melissa really listened to us and understood our needs, especially when we didn’t have the vocabulary to be explicit about what we really wanted (like, ok, sure, the kitchen is nice, but you’re really going to want a bathroom on the first floor when you’re potty-training). Plus, she’s really fun, and we like hanging out with her (our toddler still asks about “Mimi” sometimes). We’ve recommended Melissa to all of our home-buying friends, and we’d recommend her to you too!

If you live in DC and you are looking to buy a home, I really cannot recommend Melissa enough. She is straightforward, honest, and will work herself to the max for you. She: spent a ton of weekends with us and our baby, held said baby when we traipsed through houses, never said “I told you so” when we ended up in the burbs, stuck with us when we lost three bidding wars, helped us traverse a very tricky situation with a bad appraiser, swooped in with the name of a great lender and helped us save a loan that was almost compromised due to this appraiser, met contractors for us before we took possession of our keys, and just hustled hard. She was absolutely wonderful to work with, we loved spending time with her and she found us a beautiful home we could afford in our wild DC market.

My husband and I moved to the DC area in November of 2012. After about 6 months of paying way too much money for our 800 square foot apartment we decided it would be more financially responsible to buy a house. I found Melissa Terzis through a search on the internet. She responded to my email request immediately by calling me on the phone to get a general idea of what we were looking for. Immediately I could tell that I liked her and we wanted to move forward with her helping us along the way.

Since we were not familiar with the area and the DC market, Melissa patiently helped us narrow down different areas based on our needs and wants. Of course my wants and needs were slightly different than my husbands. Our house search took 6 months and we were beginning to feel deflated, exhausted, and frustrated. DC real estate we realized was tough!!!! We were competing with cash offers and people that were willing to pay way over what the property would get appraised for. I was ready to take a LONG break and just pay our “expensive rent.”

Melissa never gave up and would call, email, and text us to answer questions, pep us up, or help us think outside the box. Bottom line Melissa genuinely cares and will do anything in her power to get a house that will work for you. She made sure we didn’t settle or overpay and sure enough we found the house that we love. Melissa held our hands every step of the way even after we closed. After closing we decided we wanted to renovate the kitchen in our home. We ran into a slight problem with our contractor.

Melissa (without asking) helped us by contacting our inspection company. The owner of the inspection company came by and gave us the advice we needed to get our situation with the contractor resolved. We consider her not only our real estate agent, but our friend. We would highly, without a doubt recommend her to anyone in this area that is interested in buying a house. In fact we already did about a month before we closed. She is down to earth and a breath of fresh area, which is sometimes very difficult to find especially in a new area.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Melissa – she is extremely customer focused, detail oriented and really understands the meaning of service. Her professionalism cannot be overstated. I have bought (and sold) homes in the past, so I would consider myself a fairly knowledgeable buyer. Melissa was hands down the best agent I have ever worked with buying a home. I wish she had been my agent when I was a first time home buyer – I imagine she would be fantastic! Some of the things that impressed me – she never tried to upsell me above stated budget, always conducted herself professionally (even when some of the other listing brokers we dealt with were downright rude, inappropriate, or just plain dishonest), and was extremely responsive (via email/text AND phone). Thanks to her diligence, insight into market trends, and savvy, I ended up finding the perfect house in a desirable neighborhood at a decent price (without ending up in a bidding war, having to write escalation clauses, or any of the crazy behavior that is so prevalent in DC real estate nowadays). She is honest and always looks to represent her client in the best way possible. I would not hesitate to recommend Melissa.

Melissa was such an asset in the home buying process. This was not our first home, but it was our first experience buying in such a competitive market. Melissa knew the ins and outs of the market, how to be competitive even given our restraints, and helped us find the right place for us. We looked at SO many homes together, trying to find the right fit in a narrow area and price point. It never felt like she was just trying to make a sale or steer us in a certain direction.
